According to officer in charge Inspector John Klepczarek, there have been four instances of fraud in shops across the Highlands recently.
“A person is going to front counters and saying they don’t have their wallet but they have their card number. The well-meaning shop owner puts the transaction through,” Inspector Klepczarek said.
“The transaction goes through but it’s not legitimate and it’s a stolen card. The transaction declines later.”
“Be wary of anyone who comes into your shop and says they have their card number.”
