Rural Fire Service (RFS) has issued a high fire danger rating for the Wingecarribee Shire for Friday.
Residents are asked to review their bush fire survival plan with their families, and keep themselves informed and monitor conditions.
Highlanders should be ready to act if necessary.
Southern Highlands Rural Fire Service district officers are receiving numerous calls requesting fire permits citing the recent rains that have been experienced over the past week.
Residents advised that in accord with the decision of the Wollondilly/Wingecarribee bush fire management committee the issuing of fire permits is suspended until further notice.
While the recent rains have been very welcome it has done very little to improve the deficit in the soil moisture content (SMC).
The current SMC readings have not been seen generally across the state for more than 50 years.
The Bureau of Meteorology has released the forecast for the next couple of months.
The forecast has changed very little in that there will be higher than average temperatures and less than average rainfall.
