Well over 6000 people attended the popular annual event to watch the horse races, showcase their fashion sense and generally settle in for a great day out at Wyeera Race Course on the outskirts of Bowral.
While racing and fashion were popular this year’s event also celebrated farmers across the region.
A specified Farmers’ Tent was set up so that those who have been struggling through the recent drought had time out from working the land.
This year the total prize pool up for grabs on the race track increased to $57,000.
This made Bong Bong one of the leading picnic race events in NSW.
Two special races on the program were race five the Bong Bong Cup and race four the John Parkes Memorial Open Handicap named in honour of Bong Bong Pincic Race Club vice chairman, John Parkes, who passed away on November 5.
Fashions on the Field were as always, very popular with 20 women and 10 men strutting their style on the catwalk.
The winners and sponsors are:
- Best Hat (Glam Bowral)– Scarlett Lapnanche, Bowral
- First prize ladies fashion (Biota Dining) – Jessica Willmer, Nowra
- Second prize ladies fashion (Auberjean) – Aimee Hay, Bega
- First prize men’s fashion (Baxter Boots) – Nick Hand, Sydney
- Second prize men’s fashion (United Culture) – Paul McKay, Sydney
