The roses coincidentally share a name with Michelle’s husband Graham Thomas, who is senior minister of the church. They were planted by the church to welcome Graham to the job in January 2016. Michelle said she was impressed by this year’s floral display. “Apparently, all you need for a huge display of roses is drought then flooding rain.”
Rose enthusiasts will agree the keys to growing good roses are sunny conditions; rich, well-draining soil; organic mulch around roses to reduce foliage disease; watering the plants deeply but infrequently; checking roses frequently for insects or disease outbreaks and pruning.
