The development application (DA) was approved by the Land and Environment Court through a section 34 agreement, and the consent started operating earlier this year.
The DA was initially submitted to Wingecarribee Shire Council in November 2016, by owners of the site Romeo and Caroline Atra Pty Ltd.
The application was subject to a heritage impact statement.
The statement, conducted by Weir Phillips Heritage, concluded the restaurant would have “minimal impact” on the surrounding area.
Oporto Mittagong franchisee Praneeta Lanka said she looked forward to opening the new drive-thru restaurant and offering opportunities to Highlands job seekers.
“We will be looking for happy, fresh, youthful-spirited people who are customer-focused and love to work in a team environment,” Ms Lanka said.
“We will also be looking for people who are want to develop their skills, as I’m always keen to nurture local team members into managers.”
Oporto will share the site with a hand car wash and a cafe.
Both premises will have off-street parking for customers and access to Oporto will be from the Old Hume Highway and Alice Street.
