Russell Knight defeated Keith Edwards 31-25 in the first round matches of the senior singles at Bowral Bowling Club on Wednesday, October 24.

Former state player Knight returned to form in this match.
When 11 ends had been played Knight had a 10-9 lead, but Edwards kept matching knight with some top bowls. After 17 ends Knight still held on to a slender lead 16-15.
Knight then had a spell of top bowling and with this had a win by six shots to go into the next round.
Meanwhile Robin Staples defeated Gordon Lewis 31-9. In this match staples released some very top draw shots and after 15 ends had a 21-4 lead. It left Lewis with a lot of work to catch up. But Staples was scoring at will, and Lewis struggled through the whole match. With Staples winning by 22 shots to move into the second round.
Clive Neutze defeated rick Reynolds 31-21. After 12 ends the scores locked at 11-11.
Both players commits to playing quality bowls had the score line. The score was still level 18-18 after 22 ends.
With both players in good form, a winner was hard to pick. It was only in the last few ends which had Neutze pulling away for a ten shot win. Next Wednesday more first round matches will take place.
