The BDCU Children’s Foundation will host the fifth annual Bowral Long Lunch on Sunday, October 14 at Centennial Vineyards Restaurant from 12.30pm to raise funds for youth mental health.
Funds raised will support the education of families and young people living with a mental illness.
President Kim Furness said fundraising has been directed to the employment of specialist staff at Bowral Hospital and education forums in schools and the community.
“The foundation is pleased to announce that following the success of the 3.5 years funding of a local mental Health Nurse at Bowral Hospital, that funding has now been taken over by the state government and the position remains available to the community,” she said.
“We are now about to launch a new part time role of weight management clinician who will operate from Bowral Hospital, and address the needs of young people with eating disorders or help identify a pathway to a healthier lifestyle.
“Weight and eating disorders are closely linked to mental health needs, and we are pleased that we are able to fund this new role for the community for 12-month pilot.”
During the past 12 months the foundation has been able to reach more than 1000 local school students through their programs with batyr.
