The election will take place before the next ordinary meeting of council at the Civic Centre in Moss Vale on Wednesday, September 26.
At the ordinary meeting of council on Wednesday, May 23, councillor Graham McLaughlin submitted a notice of motion for the vote to take place before the September 26 meeting.
The motion was passed with most councillors in favour.
Councillor Ian Scandrett was the only dissenting vote.
Councillor Scandrett was in favour of the vote taking place separate from the ordinary meeting of council.
“I do think it’s important to recognise the statute of this council to say to the community come along and see whoever is going to elected at that meeting,” he said at the May 23 meeting.
“The other thing it achieved - it separated the machinations of the election process away from the business of the day.”
