Nineteen people participated in an ice bucket challenge to raise funds and awareness for the Motor Neurone Association of NSW.
The event was organised by year 11 student and student representative council member Alana Sargood.
Ms Sargood is the daughter of Glenn Sargood, a member of the Yerrinbool Bargo Soccer Club, who is living with motor neurone disease.
Ms Sargood said the ice bucket challenge brought the school community together.
“I think it’s an awesome way to get the whole school community together,” she said.
The school raised about $2700 for the Motor Neurone Disease Association of NSW.
Motor Neurone Association of NSW fundraising manager Kym Nielsen said fundraisers such as Bowral High School’s ice bucket challenges did “wonders” for the association’s members.
“We get 15 per cent of our funding from the government and 75 per cent from fundraising. Events like this make a huge difference,” she said.
“I’d like to congratulate Alana. She’s not only raised awareness and funds, but a great atmosphere.”
Alana’s mother Rachel Sargood thanked everyone for their support.
“Thanks to the staff and students at Bowral High School, and everyone who has donated,” she said.
The Motor Neurone Disease Association of NSW provides information, support and education about motor neurone disease for people living with motor neurone disease, their families, friends and carers.
