The Centre, an alliance between Charles Sturt University , the NSW Department of Primary Industries and the NSW Wine Industry Association, is a leader in viticulture and wine science research, education and extension.
Mr Bourne is the owner of Cuttaway Hill Wines, is currently the longest serving grape and wine producer in the Southern Highlands wine region with over 22 years experience.
He is also on the executive board of the NSW Wine Industry Association and is the current president of the Southern Highlands Food & Wine Association.
"It is an honour and a privilege to be appointed to the board of the NWGIC and I look forward to contributing to the centre as it continues to deliver world class research in grape and wine science for the Australian wine industry," Mr Bourne said.
NWGIC Director Professor Leigh Schmidtke said the new board members bring a wealth of experience in research and development, grape and wine production, and business management.
“We are pleased to have Mr Mark Bourne join the Board of the National Wine and Grape Industry Centre where research is focused on delivering solutions across the value chain to promote the development, sustainability and profitability of the grape and wine industries,” Prof Schmidtke said.
Mr Bourne said it was an exciting time for the Australian wine industry as demand from Asian markets continues to grow.
"This new alliance agreement and appointment of independent board members to the centre will lay the foundation for a successful research and development strategy to keep the Australian wine industry at the forefront of world class grape and wine production," Mr Bourne said.
