The Dragons were up against Warragamba Wombats in the grand final on Sunday.
They had not beaten the Wombats during the year and came very close to doing so in the decider.
In the end, the Dragons went down by two points in the 18-16 loss.
Moss Vale coach Daniel Jones said his team was down 18-4 with 10 minutes to go and fought back well to almost get the win.
“As a coach I couldn’t have asked for anything better. That’s just football. We’ll take the experience under our belt and come back next year and try go one better,” he said.
“They defended quite well and helped each other out like they have done throughout the semis. Warragamba are a good side. Their forwards gelled and opened up opportunities for their backs.”
While they didn’t finish up premiers, Jones said he was “over the moon” with the season and how the players had performed throughout the year.
The young Dragons were upset after the match but Jones said they had already spoken to him about training later in the year ahead of the 2019 competition.
“They’re so passionate about their football. I couldn’t be more proud of them.”
He said everyone on the team had had a good season, with some forwards “surprising” him with how well they performed in 2018.
The Dragons junior presentation/fun day will be held at Community Oval on September 29 from 11am.
