The Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the redevelopment of Bowral and District Hospital went on public exhibition on Friday.
The EIS has been prepared by City Plan Strategy and Development, on behalf of NSW Health Infrastructure.
The proposal includes the construction of a new three-storey inpatient building with units including medical, mental health, acute, sub-acute, close observation, maternity, paediatric and perioperative wards. According to the EIS, the proposal also includes a new emergency department, integration of pedestrian links from the new building into existing buildings, and a reconfigured public and ambulance entry into the ED.
The EIS also proposes on-grade car parking and drop-off facilities, upgrades to IT and engineering services and associated landscaping works. The EIS considers the economic and social benefits that inform the delivery of the project. Matters for consideration include analysis of feasible alternatives, assessment of potential environmental impacts, measures proposed to mitigate any adverse impacts on the environment, justification for the development and recommendation for planning approval. A heritage impact statement has also been prepared. The site is in the vicinity of Bradman Oval, the Bradman Museum collection and grandstand as well as the Bowral Conservation Area.
