The Bushrangers fought out a 1-1 draw against Hill Top on Saturday.
Yerrinbool coach Ben Lynch said it was a good result for his side given the way they played.
Lynch said without goalkeeper Kyle Cossor, whose standout performance kept them in the match, Hill Top could easily have scored several goals.
Yerrinbool now sits on 32 points, ahead of Hill Top on 31 points.
Lynch said with such a close competition, the Bushrangers goal was to win their next three games and claim the minor premiership.
Moss Vale is in third spot on 15 points, followed by Bowral (seven points) and Mittagong (six points).
The Bushrangers will have the bye this weekend when Bowral takes on Moss Vale and Hill Top faces Mittagong.
Lynch said they expected at least one of the players to return the following weekend but Yerrinbool had three players ruled out for the rest of the season through injury.
