It was another tough match for first grade as they hit the road to take on Uni and claim a 37-28 win.
Lachlan Huntington, Tom Mooney and Henry Yuill were among the try scorers for Bowral.
While Blacks head coach Gene Fairbanks said Bowral was “very dominant” in the first half, the visitors were unable to get out to a big lead after an intercept try and a breakaway try kept Uni in the game.
Uni then hit back in the second half with plenty of energy and at one stage had all the momentum.
But two late tries in the final 10 minutes of the match ensured a victory for Bowral.
“To come back and then turn the momentum late in the second half against a very good team was very pleasing,” Fairbanks said.
He said it was a great win for the side and was pleased with the way Bowral chased their ball carrier, cleaned out quickly and won the ball at the breakdown.
But while it was a good win for the Blacks, Fairbanks said their defence still needed some work.
“We’ve still got to try and limit the amount of points we’re leaking. Uni scored 28 points and we want to be better than that,” he said.
“We’re also carrying the ball really well but we’re not using the football when we should at the right time. We’re not taking advantage of the really good platform our forwards are presenting us.”
The win put Bowral at the top of the first grade ladder, one point ahead of Avondale.
In second grade, Bowral finished with a 22-14 win and thirds got up 11-5.
Second grade now sits in sixth spot on the ladder and third grade is in fourth spot.
This weekend the Blacks will be on the road again to take on Shamrocks.
Fairbanks said they would be a tough opponent at home and it was important for all three grades to get a win.
