With some mixed results last weekend, the Lions will be hoping to get a win in all four grades in front of their home fans.
First and reserve grade will come off some big wins against Narellan while the 18s and Ladies League Tag teams will be looking to bounce back after a couple of tough losses.
The Lions were at home last weekend as well and first grade celebrated a 58-10 win.
Coach Dan Beardshaw said he was pleased with how his side controlled the game and kept the Jets under pressure.
It was a tight match for the first 20 minutes before the Lions took control of the momentum and eased away.
“We did really well in some areas of the game, but need to be a lot smarter in others. We’ll have a look at the video and plan on improving certain areas,” Beardshaw said.
Blake Jeffery was awarded player’s player after he caused havoc down the right edge, making plenty of line breaks throughout the game.
“They really struggled to contain him,” Beardshaw said.
He said Jake Mercieca proved threatening around the ruck and was “really intelligent in his play”.
Following a large win, Beardshaw said the Lions needed to stay focused heading into Sunday’s match against Moss Vale.
“After a good performance, this next game could easily be the same scoreline against us, especially if we don’t turn up with the right attitude.”
Beardshaw said the Lions needed to be ready for a fast start against Moss Vale and bring plenty of energy to the game.
The reserve grade Lions remain on top of the Group 6 ladder after a convincing 40-10 win on Sunday.
Mittagong was always in control of the match and led 30-4 at the break.
The Lions had an 88 per cent completion rate in the first half and gave away just one penalty which coach Billy Hayward said was a great effort.
But he was not so happy with the second half.
Hayward said the Lions switched off in stages, their discipline was poor and the completion rate dropped.
“If we don’t rectify this at training and in the game this week, very good teams like Appin will make us pay and cause a lot of problems for us,” he said.
Ben Murchie was a standout for the Lions.
Hayward said Murchie took his chances and “made the Narellan defence pay in a big way any time they dropped their guard”.
Ben Powell again showed why he is the leading try scorer in the competition with plenty of brilliant runs on the left edge and also hit some nice lines off Jake Isedale and Jesse Bond to score some spectacular tries
This Sunday’s match against Appin will be a clash between the number one side and the third placed team on the ladder.
Hayward said the Lions needed to go into the match with the right attitude.
“From training to the warm up we have including right up until game day we must complete two halves of footy.
“If we can go into this game against a quality team in Appin with the right attitude and work ethic we will be in the game for a long way.”
Hayward said his team also needed to focus on a better second half if they were to come away with a win.
“If we are consistent for 70 minutes we will do some serious damage to some of these clinical teams in the back end of our premiership campaign.”
The under-18s were not able to back up their recent results and went down to Narellan 38-26.
The Ladies League Tag team lost 56-4.
Team manager Billy Adrian said the difference in score’s from last season to this year showed the Lions had a better squad and would continue to improve.
Up against Moss Vale this weekend, Adrian said training would be crucial in the lead up to the match.
“I’ve moved a couple of girls into different positions so it will be good getting them settled into those positions. Moss Vale have been improving week in week out like we have, so it should be good to try and get up against them again at home,” he said.
Holding onto the ball in their own half will be crucial for the Lions if they want to get a win after Adrian said the team knocked on a few times in the match against Narellan in their own 10m which allowed the Jets to score.
