An expression of interest was recently submitted for Bundanoon to be a part of the initiative by community members in conjunction with Quest for Life.
Compassionate Communities is about having citizens who have knowledge and are informed about end-of-life care.
It is also about people from all walks of life being involved in designing strategies to meet their needs.
Jessica Raschke who was involved in the submission said the idea was to involve the community in end-of-life care as much as it felt comfortable to be a part of it.
“That's not to say that it's to exclude local services and organisations, I guess it's about optimising choice,” she said.
Ms Raschke said the expression of interest to The Groundswell Project for Bundanoon was submitted because there was a belief the community could achieve a more cohesive approach to end-of-life care.
“We feel that Bundanoon already has a very well-connected and caring community and that this solid community foundation can be strengthened. This will help bring a more connected and cohesive approach to what is already happening when it comes to caring for each other during illness, dying, death and grief, and work to address any shortcomings the community might have.”
Ms Raschke said this would hopefully lead to improved quality of life and health outcome.
Local services and organisations will continue to play a crucial role in providing quality end-of-life care.
The communities chosen as part of this are Northern Beaches (NSW), Warrnambool (Victoria), Ballina (NSW), Dulong (Queensland), Newcastle (NSW), Bunbury (Western Australia) and North West Coast, (Tasmania).
A compassionate community meeting will be held at Soldiers Memorial Hall on Saturday, June 30 from 3pm-6pm.
