The event will take place on October 21 this year.
Since it’s launch in 2016 the Bowral Classic has attracted 3000 riders each year, and raised $250,000 for charities.
Riders and teams are able to fundraise for whichever charity they wish to support. We Ride organiser James Yaffa said this year’s new course represented the “true Southern Highlands”.
The course will take riders through Bowral, Berrima, Moss Vale, Mittagong, Exeter, Bundanoon, Fitzroy Falls, Robertson and Kangaloon.
“We are so proud to showcase such a stunning part of regional NSW to our riders and bring far-reaching economic and community benefits to the region,” Mr Yaffa said.
NSW Minister for Tourism and Major Events Adam Marshall said the Bowral Classic was “proudly” supported by the NSW Government via its tourism and major events agency, Destination NSW.
“We know that rural and regional events such as the Bowral Classic help to fuel the state’s overnight visitor economy, while placing our incredible destinations front and centre,” Mr Marshall said.
“The 2018 Bowral Classic is expected to attract more than 4000 overnight visitors who will spend an estimated $1.5 million in the region. We look forward to welcoming new and retuning visitors to the Southern Highlands when the event rolls around in October.”
In 2018, the 175km Maxi Classic will challenge even the fittest of the bunch.
Riders legs will be put to good use as they ride up Oxley Hill.
With a total of 2097m ascent, and a few rest stops along the way, this course will take riders through some of the most breathtaking scenery. There will also be the 120km Challenge Classic – riders who have done the 120km in the past, did not experience as much climbing as they will this year.
With an ascent of 1429m, this course will take riders through Berrima, Moss Vale and the Bundanoon loop, finishing back at Eridge Park.
A new 90km Rouleurs Classic will be part of this year’s event. The 35km Social Classic will be for those who have less time on their hands or distance in their legs.
The course will allow riders the flexibility to explore the Southern Highlands and picturesque surrounds, through Berrima, Moss Vale, Burrradoo and Bowral.
In 2018 riders aged between 12 and 16 can sign up for the Maxi, Challenge or Rouleurs course if they have a Cycling Australia Race Licence, and children over the age of 10 will be able to ride in The Social Classic.
Before the Bowral Classic kicks off on Sunday, there will be Saturday Team Time Trials at the Velodrome on October 20, from 1pm–5pm.
And there will be more on offer than just cycling.
The event will live up to the Southern Highlands’ reputation as a foodie hub with suppliers from all over the region offering up an array of fine food and beverages at ‘The Village’, a tent land that will spring up at the Bowral Classic finish line, Eridge Park. Riders and their supporters can relax on bean bags and refuel with a live band and barbecue also adding to the festivities. There will be plenty of kids’ activities, including a petting zoo and face painting.
