While local businesses generate new jobs and employ many locals, they’re also a valuable asset to the local community. Here are four ways that small to medium businesses make a local impact.
1. Local business assists in building a unique local identity
When you look around your local towns and villages you will notice that they have a unique character and charm. From the family-owned retails shop, the local accountant and dog grooming business, to antique emporiums, coffee shops and cafes, small businesses contribute to a community’s identity.
2. Local business is involved in the community
Small business owners are an integral part of the community in which they live and work. Local business owners tend to be involved in the community. They often sponsor local charities and sporting groups, join the chamber of commerce, participate in community charity events, or contribute to a local non-profit organization.
3. Local business offers a familiar face
Local business owners help to build a sense of community. Local business owners are more likely to build personal relationships with their customers, knowing many of them by name.
4. Local business offers local jobs
Local businesses are job creators, and most of those jobs are local jobs. Rather than having to commute to another city, employees work closer to home. Supporting local businesses also helps your fellow community members who work at them. Local businesses also offer jobs for the younger members of our community providing jobs for school leavers allowing them to stay in the area.
Supporting local businesses offers many benefits to our local economy, personal relationships and helps build the community. So next time you’re considering heading out of the area to shop, remember local matters.
