But it proved to be a much tougher assignment than the Bushrangers had anticipated.
Yerrinbool was only able to find the back of the net once, but it proved to be enough to get the win.
John Hatton scored Yerrinbool’s only goal in its 1-0 win.
Coach Ben Lynch said it proved to be a tougher match than what was expected and with five players unavailable for Saturday’s match, the Bushrangers strugglde.
But the win ensured Yerrinbool remained unbeaten in the 2018 season and kept top spot on the premier league ladder.
Despite being down on numbers, Lynch said it was a good opportunity for some of the club’s youth grade players to get some game time in a first grade environment.
Lynch said Luke Dinham was awarded man of the match.
“He led from the front and carried us throughout the game.” This weekend, the Bushrangers will face Hill Top in a top of the table clash.
It will be a tough test for Yerrinbool, although Lynch said they expected to welcome a few players back into the squad.
“[We need to improve] our composure on the ball and our enthusiasm to want the ball,” he said.
“Next week against Hill Top is a game we all look forward to. They’re a good side so we’ve just got to play our game and limit their shots.”
In the other men’s premier league match, Bowral and Mittagong fought out a 0-0 draw.
It was Bowral’s first clean sheet for the season and captain Stuart Kinsella said there were plenty of positives to take out of the match.
“We would have preferred to win but we’re happy to take a point,” he said.
“Both teams had opportunities to score. We hit the post twice and they [Mittagong] hit the post at least once. At the end of the day a draw was a fair result.”
Bowral has yet to find a win this year but Kinsella said the side continued to improve each week.
“Our defensive effort was particularly pleasing. The focus is just on sharpening up our attack and taking advantage of the chances we’re creating.”
Kinsella said Jarrod Gould played well at right back and Sam Rosen was also strong up front.
He was pleased with how his team held its shape and passed the ball around.
Bowral has the bye this weekend, while will be a welcome break for the side with several players carrying injuries and niggles.
Its next match in two weeks time will be against Moss Vale.
