The Lions dominated in their 56-0 win over Oakdale Workers at home on Sunday.
It was a fiery clash with two Mittagong players- Ben Murchie and Alex Stone- sent to the bin during the match and words exchanged between Oakdale players and a few Lions fans on the sideline.
With the Workers first grade side forfeiting during the week, reserve grade coach Billy Hayward said a few selection changes had been made.
It was a slow start for the Lions who completed just three out of 10 sets in the first 20 minutes.
But the home team soon fired up and a put on a show for the dedicated fans on the sideline.
Ben Powell racing down the left wing to score under the black dot was an all too familiar sight in Sunday’s match.
At the break Hayward stressed the importance of holding onto the ball and winning the ruck.
The boys came back out determined not to take their foot off the pedal.
“We came out again and played the sort of footy we’re known to play and got the result,” Hayward said,
“It wasn’t about how much, it was about [playing ] our game. It’s hard to stay focused the whole game when you’re scoring tries every three or four minutes.”
In what was an all round impressive performance from the whole side, Hayward said Simon Reid lead the team well and kept the boys focused while Jake Isedale brought plenty of experience in the middle.
Stone was also good off the bench and new recruit Kane Sanders continued to make an impression.
The Lions will have a bye this weekend and return to Mittagong Sportsground in two weeks time to take on The Oaks.
The Ladies League Tag team enjoyed a 16-6 win over Oakdale.
It was the side’s second win of the season and its first at home.
Team manager Bill Adrian said it was a good performance from the team and the players were glad to get a win in front of their fans at home.
“They’ve taken what we’ve been doing at training and obviously it paid off,” he said.
“I was really happy with the way they played.
Michelle Cassidy and Alyssa Kirkland scored two of Mittagong’s three tries and debutant Heather Duffy converted the first try.
Adrian said Sarah Stockman, who also made her debut, also had a good game.
The league tag team will now have a couple of weeks off before it faces The Oaks
Mittagong'sunder-18s went down by a converted try to Mt Annan/Oakdale with the final score 20-14.
