We shave our heads to raise money for the Leukaemia Foundation in March and men grow a little extra facial hair in Movember to raise funds and awareness for men’s health. In fact, there are special days, weeks and months dedicated to awareness and fundraising for causes or illness throughout much of every year.
Some awareness concepts – Dry July which supports people living with cancer, Red Nose Day for research into Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) - take a gimicky approach to draw attention to a worthy cause. Others such as Girls Night In for awareness of women’s cancer aim to bring people together in a social environment to raise awareness and funds.
This has been the approach of another very special campaign that has been run in homes, businesses, halls and many other locations for the past 25 years.
The Cancer Council’s Biggest Morning Tea 2018 officially falls on May 24, 2018. However, morning tea gatherings are generally held throughout the month of May and even into June.
The idea is simple, just get your friends, colleagues or community together over some tea and treats, and help to raise vital money for people affected by cancer.
More than $11.9 million was raised through these events in 2017 and the Cancer Council hopes to raise more funds than ever as the initiative reaches a silver milestone of 25 years in 2018.
Every cup of tea you serve helps Cancer Council to fund research, support services, prevention programs and advocacy. All you need to do is enjoy a morning tea with friends and make a donation for the privelege.
