This is how councillor Garry Turland has described Moss Vale road heading out of Bowral.
And in particular the intersection at Holly Road.
Cr Turland raised his concerns about the intersection at the March 28 meeting during discussion on minutes of the traffic committee.
He argued something needed to be done about to allow cars coming down the hill towards Moss Vale to go around those that had stopped and were waiting to turn right into Holly Road in Burradoo.
“It’s totally unacceptable and dangerous,” he said.
“There’s just not enough room for a car to sneak around.”
Cr Turland believes it would be “simple” to move the existing barricade over to make enough room for a car to go around a stationary vehicle.
Mayor Ken Halstead said at the council meeting such an intersection was a “death trap” and should not exist on a main road.
Holly Road resident Reg Marsh, who was recently involved in an accident at the intersection said he shared Cr Turland’s concerns.
“It has always been a bad corner for turning right. I think if the 70 km/h sign was at the bottom of the hill near Holly Road instead of closer in to Bowral up near Burradoo Road, it would be safer for motorists,” he said.
A Roads and Maritime Services spokesperson said it had investigated the “feasibility” of installing a right hand turn lane at the intersection.
“The investigation found major work would be required to upgrade the intersection due to the existing landscape,” they said.
“Directional signage was installed at this location in 2015 to help improve safety by advising motorists of the intersection. Roads and Maritime will continue to monitor the intersection.”
