The duo will perform master works for two cellos on May 5 to celebrate the 275th anniversary of Boccherini and his contemporaries, Lanzetti and Dotzauer.
Blomfield said Manwaring and himself believe Boccherini wrote some of the best music for the cello and would like to share that music with the community.
“I can’t think of anywhere in Australia that I can hear that music live,” Blomfield said.
“I mean, you can watch and listen to it on YouTube, but it isn’t the same.
“It is nice to have the opportunity to play in regional areas, especially in the more intimate venues, so people don’t have to travel to Sydney all the time for that experience.”
Blomfield said he was looking forward to an entertaining afternoon.
“The main thing for me is for the audience to walk away happy and go, ‘I’m glad I went. I didn’t know anything about this,’” he said.
“I think the audience will be able to find a pop-cultural connection between the performance and the movie Master and Commander, with Russell Crowe.
“They’ll probably hear Boccherini’s music which is in that movie and go, ‘Oh yeah, I think I’ve heard that.’”
Master and Commander will be performed on May 5 at 3.30pm at The Rose Room, 51 F Sunninghill Avenue, Burradoo.
Tickets will be available at the door for $35.
