The wheelchair racer and former Chevalier College student donned the green and gold on the Gold Coast and finished in a time of 3:38.88, 16 years after her first Commonwealth Games as a 20-year-old.
In front of a packed Carrara Stadium, the atmosphere was electric and the audience gave a standing ovation as the women circled the track after the race.
Australian teammate Madison de Rozario won the gold medal, surging on the final straight to a time of three minutes 34.06 seconds. Compatriot Angie Ballard and previous Commonwealth Games champion claimed silver in 3:36.85 while bronze went to Canada's Diane Roy in 3:36.97.
Unlike the Olympic Games which holds a separate Paralympic Games, the Commonwealth Games combines events for all athletes during the games period.
