A country show, yoga, kid’s activities in the wilderness and music – check out our suggestions for things to do this weekend in the Highlands.
1 – The Bowral Show. Saturday and Sunday, January 13 to 14, from 8:30am. Bong Bong Racecourse, Bowral.
This year is the 90th annual installment of the Bowral Show. A yearly event centered on community, animals, art, craft and friendly competition, the Bowral Show is held across two days.
It will feature equestrian show jumping, dressage and classes, a pet show, dog high jump and the pavilion exhibit, which includes photography, needlework, craft, crochet, knitting, spinning, felting, weaving, cookery, preserves and junior art, craft and cookery.
2 – National Parks and Wildlife Service’s discovery summer holiday program. Saturday, January 13. Fitzroy Falls Visitor Centre. Details: 4887 7270.
Join in on a WilderQuest Ranger Activity Day at Fitzroy Falls, where six to 12 year-olds will be given a hands-on one hour session to try out some of the skills and equipment needed to be a National Parks ranger.
This is a great opportunity that offers young people a unique chance to see how rangers who work in the woodland environment look after the national parks, plants and animals.
Three one-hour sessions will run from 9:30am, 10:45am and 12pm, starting from the Fitzroy Falls Visitor Centre. Tickets are $10 per child, and accompanying adults are free.
3 – Yoga in the vines. Sunday, January 14, 10am. Artemis Wines, 46 Sir Charles Moses Lane, Mittagong. Details: 0401 199 075.
A one hour yoga session by Annie Di Natale from Southern Highlands Yoga on the lawn in front of the vineyard.
This will be followed by cheese and fruit platters and a glass of award winning wine, or all Australian cider or sparkling mead. Tickets are $35 and booking (online) is recommended.
4 – Summer chill out session. Saturday, January 13, 1pm to 4pm. Joadja Estate, corner of Greenhills and Joadja Roads, Berrima. Details: 4878 5236.
The estate is hosting its weekly chill-out music session this weekend, with free wood fired pizza and wine tasting available.
Highlander Bryn Burnell will be playing.

5 – Farm club walk. Sunday, January 14, 10am. Farm Club Australia, 1 Werai Road, Werai. Details: 4883 4664.
Join in on a wander around the Southern Highland farm club, to see farm animals, produce and how things run on the land at Werai. Entry is free and the walk will go for about 30 minutes.
