Wingecarribee Adult Day Care Centre and Dementia Australia will be the charity partners for the Southern Highland’s 2018 Tulip Time Festival with well-known local celebrity, Noeline Brown, the 2018 Tulip Time Ambassador.

In a major move, the 2018 Tulip Time Festival will revert to a 14-day festival from September 18 to October 1, again taking place over the October long weekend.
Destination Southern Highlands manager Steve Rosa said the theme will be ‘Creating Memories’.
“In support of our charity partners’ theme ‘Forget-Me-Not’ and that September is Dementia Awareness Month, the theme for the 2018 Tulip Time will be about ‘Creating Memories’ through the colourful displays of massed planted tulips and a range of activities and installations created by Southern Highland artists in all fields of the Arts,” he said.
Wingecarribee Adult Day Care Centres support the frail aged, disabled and socially isolated people in the community through the provision of programs and services for those affected by dementia, their families and carers.
Dementia is the second leading cause of death in Australia.
Dementia Australia genera manager fundraising Simon Crowson said Dementia Australia was proud to be a Tulip Time partner.
“[We appreciate] the opportunity to raise awareness of the impact of Dementia in today’s society,” he said.
Wingecarribee Adult Care Centres Extension Fundraising Committee director and chair Bob Constable said Tulip Time provided a great opportunity to raise awareness about Dementia.
“With the growing ageing population in the Southern Highlands there are not enough facilities to accommodate their needs,” he said.
“The 2018 festival provides a great opportunity to raise the awareness of Dementia and the need for facilities to allow people to stay and be involved in the community for longer with a sense of comfort and support”.
Noeline Brown, Logie award-winning actor, comedian and Australia’s first appointed ambassador for ageing in 2008.
“As a long-term resident of the Southern Highlands I fully understand the importance of Tulip Time to the local community and I am delighted to accept the position of Tulip Time Ambassador for 2018,” she said.
“I am aware of the excellent and important work that both charities carry out locally and throughout Australia and it is a pleasure to give them my support.”
