The Bowral CWA have just released their first ever cookbook.
Compiled by members of the women’s group, the cookbook features over 100 recipes that cover main courses, snacks and desserts.
Some of the recipes include the coveted ‘Tulip Time scones’, as well as Maryanne’s meat loaf, Granny’s butter chicken, Maggie’s zucchini soup, caramel filo bananas, Nan’s cinnamon tea cake and Essie’s tomato relish.
Bowral CWA Secretary Diana Innes said she suggested the idea to the group one afternoon in the craft room in July.
“It all happened in two weeks and then we worked like mad to get it all together,” she said.
“Every member that wanted to contribute has.”
Ms Innes said the recipes are varied, accessible and convenient.
“They’re really simple recipes. They’re not complex,” she said.
“They’re people’s recipes that are tried and true.”
The cookbook cover features artwork from one of the group’s newest members, local artist and two-time Archibald portraiture finalist Zoe Young.
“We were sitting down and we thought ‘What are we going to have on the front cover?’ because we didn’t want to just have a CWA emblem,” Ms Innes said.
“So we thought to ask Zoe – she’s a new member and an artist – and she said she would love to.”
The group printed 250 cookbooks and have sold 87 so far.
“This is our first cookbook. There are times we thought it wasn’t going to work, but we’re very pleased with it,” Ms Innes said.
The cookbooks are for sale at the Bowral CWA headquarters during Tulip Time, along with tea towels featuring the same artwork from Ms Young.
