At about 8.57am on Monday, September 11, Mittagong fire brigade and Bowral Fire and Rescue responded to calls in regards to a fire on Hawkins Drive, Mittagong.
Mittagong crews were first to arrive and found a fire in one of the main buildings at the pool.
Bowral Captain John Arnot said the building was adjacent to a chemical storeroom.
“The building was approximately six metres by six metres and was directly adjacent to a storeroom with numerous chemicals,” he said.
Arnot said crews “worked quickly" to get the fire under control.
“We had extinguished the fire in about 20 minutes, [it was] unusual terrain to find and isolate power and things like that,” he said.
No one was present at the scene when crews arrived.
Arnot said the fire was being treated as suspicious.
“We have the Fire and Rescue Investigation Unit and police coming to investigate the cause,” he said.
“We are working with our investigation unit to see what possibilities there are [for the cause of the fire].”
