Under-14s Player Daniel Webb played his first game against Group 9 and scored a try which he then converted from the sideline.
A penalty goal from Webb in the dying minutes of the game, allowed Group 6 to come away with the win 12-10 and advance to the next round.
Group 6 were defeated by a quality Group 7 side 8-6.
Webb once again scored and converted a try, but it was not enough to push Group 6 ahead.
In the final game of the weekend Group 6 faced off against a strong Victorian team in the Trophy Final.
The Group 6 boys did their best but the score became a blowout against the VRL Team, with the final score 46-10.
Mittagong Junior Lions club secretary Billy Hayward said the club was proud of Webb’s performance.
“Mittagong is very proud of Dan for all his hard work and dedication,” he said.
“He had the experience of a lifetime to mix with the talented footballers not on only in the Group 6 region but across the Country Rugby League in general.”
Hayward said Webb would be able to take his new skills back to the Lions club.
“No doubt Dan’s experience will benefit him, taking back everything he has learnt at representative level back to his Mittagong Lions under-14a team, who are running equal first in within the Group 6 Competition.”
Moss Vale’s Mant, Payne and Collins also celebrated a few Group 6 victories.
The under-15s also played Group 9 in the opening round.
It was a tough game which Group 9 ultimately won 16-8, which placed Group 6 into the Plate competition.
The 15s played Group 11 Saturday afternoon in what was their best game of the weekend.
The Group 6 boys took the game 24-14 over a good Group 11 team, which scheduled them to play against a strong Canberra outfit on Sunday morning.
It was a very big weekend for the Group 6 boys, which showed on their faces as they took to the field.
But there were no excuses from the under-15s, who were unfortunately defeated by Canberra 32-0. Group 6 Rugby League executive officer Stephen Hazleton said it was a good result fr the Group 6 community. “The Group 6 JRL players did their best and put in a great effort that made us proud, but came up against some very good teams, in a tough 2017 Southern Draw,” he said.
