The Highlanders defeated Picton Magpies 20-16 in round two of the Southern Highlands Shield competition.
Bundanoon claimed its first win back in the Group 6 competition at Victoria Park, on April 22.
The Highlands team has returned to the Group 6 competition this year after they had to withdraw from second division in 2016 due to a lack of playing numbers.
The Highlanders were quick to score with Cheyne Denning and Daniel Smith both crossing the try line before half time.
At the break Bundanoon was ahead 12-4 and continued its strong performance in the second half.
Picton picked up its game in the second half and managed to score another 12 points.
However Bundanoon’s Justin Sloggett proved to be the difference.
Slogett starred for the Highlanders and put two tries on the board to take the score to 20-16 at the full time buzzer.
Slogett was awarded man of the match and Bundannoon captain/coach Chris Conquest said he was a stand out by far.
“He scored two tries and his defence was outstanding,” Conquest said.
Conquest also praised Mitch Granger and Kane Acton on their performances in Bundanoon’s return to the field.
Conquest said it was great to get back on the field following several washed-out games.
“It was a pretty scrappy match being the fist game of the season but it was a good result, especially because we haven’t had a lot of time on the field,” he said.
“The main thing was that we just got on the field this week and played. The win was a bonus.”
Conquest said the Highlanders’ first match showed they needed to work on their discipline and ball control ahead of their next match.
The team is made up of about 20 new and returning players this year, who want to make the finals in 2017.
The Highlanders will have the bye in round three.
The round one catch-up game will be played on May 6 against Bargo Bunnies at Bargo Sportsground.
“It should be a good game against Bargo and we’ve got a good amount of time to work on things ahead of the game,” Conquest said.
