Service bookings for supported employment are now being accepted, and there is no limit on what potential employees can do and learn.
Leading hand Camilla Pickup has worked at the centre for 15 years, and said she had had a go at every task available.
“I wouldn’t work anywhere else, it’s a nice place to work and there are great people to work with,” she said.
Employees can take part in jobs such as light packaging, document destruction, wrapping the newspaper, assembly, distribution, gardening, tending the nursery and propagation – just to name a few.
Nationally recognised training courses are also available, and last year employees studied retail, completed their Certificate II in Business Studies, first aid, forklift training and chemical application.
Alongside the employment opportunities, new services will be available under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS):
- Plan management: establish and maintain a NDIS plan, including linking to other services of your choice and maanaging funding
- Support coordination: provide assistance in identifying and coordinating other supports that the applicant may require under their NDIS plan
- Arrange accommodation and help with tenancy issues
- Provide travel assistance and support
- Home modification: identify necessary modifications and manage completion of modifications
- Specialised driver training to gain or maintain a driver’s licence
- Assist individuals to continue to live independently, including household tasks, yard and garden maintenance
- Assist personal activities outside employment
- Community participation to develop skills and confidence
- Develop life skills to assist participants to live in the community
- Daily tasks for shared living and specialised disability accommodation through Challenge House
If you wish to work in a supported workplace, you must advise the NDIS Local Area Coordinator of your choices so it will be included in your plan.
Once your package is approved and you have funding, you will need to make a booking with each service provider that you wish to use for your services. You will need to bring your approved plan to any employment meetings.
