Since 2014, at the wrap- up of the Highlands’ biggest festival, the bulbs have been donated to Welby Garden Centre to support the community-building work the organisation does throughout the Highlands.
Council and the Welby Garden Centre are offering residents the chance to take home a piece of this year’s celebrations by purchasing bulbs from the floral festival.
Manager of tourism and events Steve Rosa said council’s garden team had been busy digging up the bulbs since the end of the festival.
“The Parks and Gardens team has done a great job digging up over 100,000 bulbs,” he said.
“From here the crew have carefully packed and transported the bulbs in crates to the Welby Garden Centre.”
Welby Garden Centre is operated by Challenge Southern Highlands and provides vocational training and supported employment services to people with disabilities.
“The centre does a fabulous job assisting people living with a disability and we couldn’t think of a more worthwhile organisation to donate the bulbs to,” Steve said.
Mixed bags of 15 bulbs will be sold from the centre for just $10 per bag.
Apart from offering bulbs from this year’s record-breaking Tulip Time celebrations, the Welby Garden Centre also specialises in cold climate trees, shrubs and plants.
“On behalf of everyone involved in organising this year’s 56th Tulip Time celebrations - in particular the staff from Destination Southern Highlands, Council’s Parks and Garden team and the members of the Tulip Time Working Group - I’d like to thank all our visitors who supported the event,” Steve said.
“I encourage all garden enthusiasts to support the Welby Garden Centre by getting in early and buying a bag of this year’s beautiful bulbs,” Mr Rosa said.
Residents who wish to purchase a bag of bulbs are encouraged to bring their own plastic or hessian bags.
Bulbs will be available until they are sold out, but cannot be pre-ordered. Visit the centre to secure your own piece of Tulip Time.
