A concert will be held on October 22 in Moss Vale.
The money raised will go to former Zimbabwe residents Godfrey and Fatuma who continue to support the country.
The couple was born in Zimbabwe and migrated to Australia in 2005.
Godfrey is a tradesman and a pastor and Fatuma is a registered nurse at Bowral and district hospital. Both are directors of Shekinah Helping Hand.
Since moving to Australia they have reached out to the underprivileged along the Zambezi valley which is a drought prone region.
Damien McDonald who has helped with the event said he recently met the couple and after hearing their story wanted to help.
“I am on the board of a similar non profit project and I have found the approach by Godfrey and Fatuma is very successful,” he said.
“They are providing education and tools to help individuals create an income to move themselves and the community away from the poverty line for example by breading goats to produce an income.”
Mr McDonald said he and his wife were going to Zimbabwe in December to “understand the situation and gain a better understanding of the potential projects that could be supported in the future”.
The economic challenges within the nation of Zimbabwe and the HIV epidemic have left many to be widows and orphans and Fatuma and Godfrey have a passion to help.
They have given goats, pigs and chickens to the widows for breeding. This is a program passed on from one widow to another and has proven to be successful.
The couple has also given drought resistant seeds and encourage nutrition gardens.
They have educated orphans from primary to secondary level and offer education.
With the help from partners they have started building huts for widows.
They have also sourced discipleship materials and bibles for the community church leadership.
Since transport is a challenge in the rural areas they will be looking at providing push bikes to orphans and pastors who walk long distances.
They also run an annual children’s camp, worship conference and promote physical activity.
Godfrey and Fatuma go on annual mission trips to Zimbabwe and neighbouring countries to encourage and support the brethren.
They organise mission trips to Zimbabwe and other parts of Africa. Recently land has been allocated in Kanywambizi and the aim is to train and equip the local community, mainly widows and orphans in agriculture.
The couple will also be doing missions training.
The concert will go from 5.30pm-7pm at the corner of Railway Street and Spring Street, Moss Vale.
The performances will include a drummer, drama, African dancing and a comedian.
Tickets will cost $15 for adults and the admission fee will include dinner.
Entry for children under 12 will be free.
