IT’S more than just a cookbook.
Our Village Table is the story of Exeter and its community.
The cookbook has taken two years to complete and was the brainchild of Exeter Public School P and C members Greer Worsley and Lauren Johnson.
“They [the recipes] all had lovely stories with them. We wanted to make sure they weren’t just recipes people had pulled out of a cookbook, that there was a reason why they wanted to submit the recipe,” Ms Worsley said.
“A lady told me she’s getting to know people better because of the book.”
The book will be officially launched at Exeter Public School’s 125 year celebrations on October 22.
There are more than 200 recipes in the book from the Exeter community and a few from the surrounding villages.
Ms Johnson said they had received plenty of support from local businesses who sponsored the project.
“We’re only a small school so we’ve got limited funds to do a project like this,” she said.
“We’ve definitely had some really good feedback from people who are purchasing it.”
The Exeter Village Association (EVA) previously tried to tackle a similar project but did not finish.
Many of the recipes were given to Ms Johnson from the EVA which she said was a big help when it came to compiling and collecting all the recipes.
There is an Our Village Table Facebook page where people have already begun to share their photos of the recipes they have made from the book.
The book is currently available at the Exeter General Store and will soon be for sale at the school and several other locations in the Highlands.
It costs $39.95 and can also be ordered online at ourvillagetable.bigcartel.com
All proceeds from the book will go directly back to the school.
“So far it’s been so successful that it’s going to be a huge boost to the school to have those funds and it was well worth the effort we put in,” Ms Worsley said.
