DISCOVER rare rocks and unique animals in our National Parks these school holidays.
Walks, talks and tours have been organised by the people from the National Parks and Wildlife Service from September 24 to October 8.
Take part in these ranger-guided tours in the Highlands and South Coast:
- September 24: Fitzroy Falls, Morton National Park, every half hour from 11.00am to 1.30pm. Cost by donation, meet at Visitor Centre Foyer, Fitzroy Falls
- September 26: Build your own kite and learn about gliders and other forest fliers at Seven Mile Beach National Park, 2.00pm-3.30pm. Children are $10 each, accompanying adults are free. Meet at Beach Road Picnic Area
- September 27: Discover bush tucker and bush medicine at the ‘Finding food in the forest’ event, 10.30am-12.00pm, at Fitzroy Falls, Morton National Park. Children are $10 each, accompanying adults are free.
- September 28: Discover the art of the forest with Vanessa Harrington in the Minnamurra Rainforest, 10.30am-12.00pm. Children are $10 each, accompanying adults are free.
- September 29: Explore rock pools for their treasure at Depot Beach, Murramarang National Park, from 10.30am to 12.00pm. Meet at Campground Office, Depot Beach. Children are $10 each, accompanying adults are free.
- September 29: Watch the forest come alive at night and discover nocturnal creatures from 7.00pm to 8.30pm. Meet at Campground Office, Depot Beach. Children are $10 each, accompanying adults are free.
- September 29: Paddle board cultural tour along the Currambene Creek Estuary from 10.30am to 12.30pm. Meet at Woollamia Boat Ramp, Jervis Bay Marine Park, and bring sun protection, water and snack. This event is only for people 12-years and older, and you must be able to swim. Cost is $60 per person, call 0403 354 716 to book.
- October 1: Wander through Wanda the Caravan in Huskisson and meet the Discovery Rangers. Meet at Dent Street, Huskisson at 10.30am. Cost is by donation

- October 5: Play photographic hide-and-seek with the animals and scenery at the Minnamurra Rainforest. Suitable for 5 to 12-year-olds, runs from 10.30am to 12.00pm. Cost is $10 per child, accompanying adults are free.
- October 6: In your own car, take part in the guided Australian Landscape Tour of Morton National Park from 10.30am to 1.30pm. Meet at Sussex Inlet Road (Corner Princes Highway), cost is $40 per vehicle.
- October 7: Become bug detectives and explore the world of bugs and minibeasts at the Macquarie Pass National Park from 10.30am to 12.00pm. Meet at Cascades Picnic Area, Illawarra Highway, Macquarie Pass National Park. Children are $10 each, accompanying adults are free.
- October 8: Explore the landscape from a Koori perspective at the Dharawal National Park, Campbelltown, from 1.30pm to 3.00pm. Children are $5, adults $10 and families are $25.
- October 8: Meet Leon Fuller, author of Wollongong’s Native Trees, and find out how to identify native plants for landscaping and gardening. Held at the Fitzroy Falls Visitor Centre in Morton National Park, this is a free event from 11.00am to 12.30pm.
