The Exeter CWA hosted a 1940s-themed party to toast the branch’s 70th anniversary.
CWA members from across the Wollondilly district headed to Moss Vale’s Dormie House for the celebrations.
Participants wore clothes inspired by the 1940s to the event.
Special guests included current Exeter CWA president Pat de Corsie and past branch presidents Aliki Darlow and Jane Durnford.
The Exeter CWA branch opened on July 9, 1946.
Prior to that date, Exeter women joined CWA branches close by such as Moss Vale, Bowral and Bundanoon.
Ms de Corsie said it was special for the Exeter branch to celebrate its 70th anniversary.
“We thank those dedicated Exeter women, past and president, that kept the flag flying for the past 70 years,” she said.
“We look forward to many more successful times.”
One of the original branch members, Shirley Marshall, attended today’s celebrations.
Ms Marshall said Exeter CWA had undergone ups and downs over the past seven decades.
“At one point, the branch closed due to lack of numbers,” she said.
“I was part of a group that helped re-form the Exeter branch and it has gone from strength to strength.”
Pam Barker attended today’s event on behalf of NSW CWA president Annette Turner.
Ms Barker said CWA branches offered companionship for women who were isolated in rural areas.
She said branches had been driven by “forward thinking women”.
Ms Barker said all branches needed to be “united as one voice”.
“We have a wonderful treasure and we must pass it on,” she said.
“Congratulations to the Exeter branch on their many achievements.”
