THE Mittagong Lions under-18s side secured its third successive victory on Sunday.
The Lions recorded a convincing 28-8 win over rival Narellan in the Group 6 under-18s competition.
It was a significant win for the young Lions at Mittagong Sports Ground.
The last time these sides met in May, Narellan recorded a thumping 34-12 victory.
However, it was a much improved effort at home by Mittagong on Sunday.
Lions under-18s captain Ben Powell said it was a pretty good win by his team.
"We've been working on our shape at training," he said.
"We're building and we've played well in the last few weeks."
Powell said his players had learnt from the team's previous loss to Narellan.
He said the Lions were well led by hooker Nick Eccleston, prop Pat Brown and five-eighth Tully Manusic on Sunday.
"They [Narellan] put a score on us last time," Powell said.
"Last time, they ran straight through up the middle.
"But we controlled the ruck this time and we had also better urgency and sliding defence."
The result keeps the Lions in the hunt for a finals berth.
The side is battling with Narellan and the Camden Rams for a spot in the top four.
