A RECORD crowd attended the 2015 Southern Highlands Rugby 7s Tournament on Saturday.
More than 2500 rugby union fans headed to Eridge Park for the fourth annual tournament.
The event was hosted by the Bowral Blacks Rugby Club hosted the fourth annual Southern Highlands Rugby 7s Tournament.
Tournament director David Loiterton said Saturday's event attracted a good-sized crowd.
"It's hard to tell how many people attended, but we estimate that between 2500 and 3000 people came through the gates," he said.
"It's the biggest crowd that we've ever had."
The event hosted more than 60 rugby teams from across NSW and the ACT.
Men and women of all ages took part in the tournament.
Grades on offer were men's open, women's open, men's Colts (under-20s), boys under-18s, girls under-18s, boys under-16s, girls under-16s, boys under-14s and girls under-14s.
Loiterton said Saturday's tournament was a great success.
Loiterton said the Highlands competition was one of a handful 7s tournaments in Australia that was open for men, women, girls and boys players.
"We are very proud of that because we encourage kids coming through," he said.
"It is the second year that we've had a senior girls comp and this year we had junior girls in the under-18s, under-16s and under-14s."
Loiterton said Eridge Park was a good venue for the tournament.
"We had four fields operating simultaneously, which worked well," he said.
The Highlands tournament was attended by four current or former Australian rugby players.
Gene Fairbanks, Tom Cusack, Jim Hindmarsh and Reg Smith all handed out awards on Saturday.
Other special guests included Robin Croker, founder of the Bowral Blacks Rugby Union Club.
Croker was on hand to present the Robin Croker Cup to the winner of the men's open final, the Ozboks.
