An old wall outside Empire Cinema Bowral is in the process of an art-inspired makeover.
Local landlord Gerry Kroon was motivated to make use of the empty space.
"I thought this wall looked so naked," he said. "For years I wondered what could be done with it.
"After being involved in Rotary's Science and Engineering Day, I thought it would be a good idea to involve each of the seven high schools in the area, again, in a new project."
Seven large metal frames have been installed on the wall opposite the Empire Cinema entrance and will soon feature one artwork from each school in the region.
Timed for the 100-year anniversary of the Empire Cinema, these artworks will showcase a film and movie-inspired theme to celebrate the only cinema in the Highlands.
The cinema is a major drawcard for the area as far as entertainment and visitors to the region are concerned.
Mr Kroon said in the previous calendar year alone, there had been more than 207,000 visitors to Empire Cinema.
He had planned that the new 'art wall' would feature a range of different works, with various themes to be displayed throughout each year.
Although still in its planning stage, Mr Kroon hoped there would be a possibility of auctioning the artworks so that the money raised could be returned to the schools.
"The schools have been energetically involved," he said. "It's a good project for the area, and it's good for the eye."
The Empire Art Walk, supported by Bowral-Mittagong Rotary Club, will be opened with a special ceremony on September 11, from 4.30pm.
