AN EAST Bowral man had his licence disqualified for two years and was fined $600 when he faced Moss Vale Local Court last month.
Sheldon Paul Johnson was stopped by police on the Hume Highway after he was clocked driving at 140km/h in a 110km/h zone at the dipper near Mittagong at 9.45pm on August 10.
Court documents said at first, Johnson told police he did not have his licence with him, but then produced it.
Police checks showed his licence had been suspended and Johnson was well aware of it.
The 40-year-old had also been stopped on June 14, 2014 and issued a Field Court Attendance Notice for driving with a suspended licence.
Police issued Johnson with three infringement notices: excess speed in a Class A vehicle more than 20km/h, use unregistered and uninsured motor vehicle on the road and he was issued a court notice for driving with a suspended licence - second offence.
Drugs found in Mittagong
A MITTAGONG man was fined $900 by Moss Vale Local Court after he was charged with possessing prohibited drugs and prescribed restricted substances.
Policed visited the residence of Raymond Llewellyn Moore of Railway Parade on July 25 at 9.45am and said they could smell cannabis in the doorway.
Moore admitted he was in possession of “a little bit” of cannabis and he smoked it to ease chronic pain.
Court documents said Moore took police to the lounge room where he had four resealable bags of the drug.
The 48-year-old told the police the cannabis was his and he intended to smoke it. Police also found two metal tins with 16 Clonazepam (Rivatol) pills in them.
Rivatol is a schedule four prescribed substance under the Posions and Therapeutic Goods Act.
Moore said he was “given” the pills for pain relief.
He admitted the pills were not lawfully prescribed.
Police seized the four bags of cannabis, which added up to 26.5grams, as well as the 16 pills of Rivatol. He was fined $600 and $300 respectively for the possession.
Jail time for driver
A MITTAGONG man is behind bars after he was convicted of driving with a disqualified licence.
Shane Darryl Carpenter of Albert Street, Mittagong, was convicted in Moss Vale Local Court of driving during a disqualified period with prior offences.
He was imprisoned from September 18 and will serve 12 months with a non parole period of nine months and was disqualified from driving for another two years.
When police stopped the 37-year-old on Bendooley Street, Welby, he admitted his licence was disqualified.
Police checks revealed it was disqualified until 2019 and there had been nine drive-while-disqualified incidents.
Carpenter also faced court for break and enter a building or dwelling to commit a serious indictable offence.
The court was told fingerprints that matched Mr Carpenter’s were found at the scene of a break and enter and witnesses told police they saw him at the property.
He was found not guilty and the case was dismissed.
