A juvenile koala was sighted by residents on Elsworth Avenue, Mittagong on Monday morning as he made his way up the side of their houses.
The young male decided to settle in the branches of a dying tree on the roadside before the concerned residents called for help.
Robertson resident Richard 'Woody' Woodman and Melanie Ison from Wildlife Rescue South Coast came to the rescue.
Woody carefully climbed a ladder up to the top-most branches and used a net on a pole to bring the koala to safety.
"They're on the move at the moment," Woody said.
"It could be seasonal and that time of year where they widen their wandering or it could be a residual affect from the bush fires last year.
"The affects take a long time to leech out of the area.
"Most of the koalas would have perished, but those that survive leave in search of food and water and displace other koalas in a residual affect."
Woody credited council's environmental projects officer Joe Stammers for centralising information regarding native animals and their welfare.
"There's been a marked increase in community awareness about koalas," Woody said.
"In the past koalas may have been seen, but now they're being reported."
