This topic will be discussed at the Royal Society of NSW Southern Highlands Branch's next meeting.
The event will explore the link between Baroque music and the brain wave.
Guest speaker is Dr Christian Heim, an expert in both fields of mental health and music.
Dr Heim is a psychiatrist in private practice in Brisbane.
Previously, he taught music at the universities of Wollongong and Newcastle, and he studied in Vienna, Paris and New York.
As a Churchill fellow, Dr Heim researched the therapeutic uses of music in European hospitals.
His music and theatre works have been performed in Australia and New York, and his CD Prayer Dances still gets an occasional airing on ABC Classic FM.
This presentation will explore the quest to show that music is good for health and has clinical applications.
It will specifically focus on Dr Heim's recently published studies exploring how Baroque music may be beneficial to the care of people suffering from dementia. The event will be held at the Performing Arts Centre, Chevalier College, on Thursday, May 15 from 6.30pm.
Prices are $5 for Royal Society members and $10 for non-members.
Following the lecture, there will be a dinner with Dr Heim at The Briars.
