The solicitor for Kieran Loveridge, 18, indicated last week his client would apply for bail today after being charged with murder over the attack on July 7.
But in a brief hearing at Burwood Local Court this morning, his solicitor said there would be no bail application today.
Mr Loveridge watched proceedings via video link from Silverwater jail.
He will remain there, on remand, until September 20 when his case will be heard at Central Local Court.
The 18-year-old was arrested at Belmore Sports Ground last Wednesday evening.
He was charged with the murder of Mr Kelly and with assaulting three other people on the same night.
Mr Kelly was hit once on the head as he walked with his girlfriend and another girl down Victoria Street just after 10pm.
Police will allege the attack was random and unprovoked.
