Cr McLaughlin is joined by four other keen local citizens who will share his ticket, which has been endorsed by the Southern Highlands Branch of the Labor Party.
Jan Merriman, a previous candidate for Federal Parliament and council is second on the ticket, followed by Bowral residents Jane Miller and Mike Bowern and Moss Vale local, David Kent.
"I'm gratified by the support I'm getting in the local community to run again. People have told me they appreciate my concern for the general good of the shire and not just being there on council for specific interest groups," Cr McLaughlin said.
"Since I was first elected in 2008, I have been on a steep learning curve and there are lots of local issues, like the current one on the coal mine at Medway, where I have actively pursued the general interests of the community."
He said that he was a down to earth bloke who'd been a local resident for over 50 years and still employed in his trade as an electrician.
"I think I've shown I can stand up for the true locals who live and work and bring up their kids here.
"I'm looking for their continued respect and support."
