A MAN has been shot during a police operation in Bowral and taken to hospital with chest and arm wounds.

A NSW Ambulance Service spokeswoman said paramedics were called to Short Street at 6am on Saturday to find a man with gunshot wounds.
Short Street is in the immediate vicinity of Bowral's Wingecarribee Street police station.
NSW Police Media have advised that just before 7am today, police attached to Goulburn Local Area Command were speaking to a 22-year-old man on Shepherd Street, when the man began making threats.
The officers attempted to negotiate with the man and further police attended.
After a period of interaction, an officer discharged his firearm, with the man sustaining injuries to his right shoulder and left side of his chest.
The man was taken to Liverpool Hospital where he is understood to be in a critical but stable condition.
A crime scene has been established at the location and police from State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad and the Professional Standards Command are conducting inquiries into the incident.
No police were injured in the incident.
A police critical incident investigation is underway.
