While the recent economic climate and advances in technology have led to several huge book stores shutting their doors for good, this is not the case for Berkelouw Book Barn.
The premises are being renovated to offer their customers a new and unique book buying experience at the store in Berrima.
As the Book Barn is within the grounds of the Bendooley Vineyard, that experience is creating a destination where customers can have a combined experience of book reading/browsing with a cellar door experience.
"The plan is to create a space that will encourage people to turn the page of a book while they take a sip of great cool climate wine," owner Paul Berkelouw said.
He said this is a massive move for the barn.
"Our first store in Paddington set the trend for providing a relaxed environment to recommend, review, read and buy new and second-hand books with the combination of a book shop and a contemporary cafe," Mr Berkelouw said.
"We now have the opportunity to take that concept to another level.
"It will be a treasure trove of literature with a cellar door and a licensed cafe."
He said the aim is to have the premises renovated before winter.
"A good book and a good bottle of red in front of a roaring fire on a cold day; it doesn't get much better than that."
A five day sale with books ranging from 20 to 50 per cent off starts today.
