Wingecarribee Council's Arts and Culture Board hopes that members of the public will help bring the work by the eminent Burradoo sculptor to Corbett Plaza by helping to meet a $15,000 shortfall in installation costs.
The 2.5 metre high stainless steel sculpture, designed to mirror the colour and movement of the plaza, will be fully fabricated and installed by local businesses.
JCA Steel Fabrication has worked with Mr Flugelman on many of his previous stainless steel works.
He has chosen JCA to fabricate the Corbett Plaza piece because the company is one of the few that can produce the standard he requires.
Mr Flugelman's stainless steel works stand in Adelaide's Festival Hall and Rundle Mall, the National Gallery of Australia and the Lawrence Hargrave Memorial in Wollongong, as well as Sydney, Canberra, and the University of Wollongong.
JCA Steel fabrication will work with Cranebiz of Mittagong and The Box Concrete Company, also of Mittagong, to install the $85,000 work in the plaza.
JCA has cut $10,000 from the cost of the work to ensure that the project goes ahead without delay. Other local businesses are also discounting their prices to help bring the project to fruition.
The Bowral Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with Wingecarribee Council and Mr Flugelman, have chosen a site at the Bong Bong Street end of Corbett Plaza for the sculpture.
