Illawarra started this game aggressively, taking it right up to the local Kegs side.Illawarra slotted in two first quarter goals and kept the Kegs scoreless.
Quarter time advice was well heeded and the attack improved as well, with the Kegs coming back with three goals in the second quarter. Goal scorers were Luke Pasfield 2 and John Kelly 1 while Illawarra’s Robbie Maher managed another
one Illawarra, to see the half time score locked up at three each.
The third quarter was very tight, neither side was giving their opponent opertunities. It was Kegs who managed to break the dead lock with a solitary goal to Simon McEwan.
This goal was most significant because it represented the result
of a huge effort by each team .
The fourth quarter saw the Kegs roll home this advantage with three further goals one to Ryan Webb, Brad Hamilton and another to Simon McEwan, Illawarra
could only manage a solitary goal to Elizabeth Maher, allowing the Kegs to run out as 7-4 winners of the match.
Sea Hawkes arrest FBI’s
The Sea Hawkes also came from behind in their emphatic win over FBI‚s, 11-7 in the second open junior game of the evening. The FBI‚s had the cuffs on the Hawkes as they raced away to a 3-1 lead at the end of the first quarter, thanks to goals by Stuart Murdoch and 2 to Jonas Price, Leigh Steele kept Sea Hawkes in touch with a goal.
The second quarter was the reverse of the first, with the Sea Hawkes flying high and zeroing in on the FBI‚s every lapse. Sea Hawkes goals to Sean Andrews 2 and Guy Turland 1 to FBI‚s lone goal by Jonas Price saw the scores locked up at 4-4 at half time.
What happened after the break left the FBI‚s calling for an internal investigation as the Sea Hawkes did their best work and exploded with four goals, 2 to Guy Turland and 2 to Dougal Alexander while at the same time keeping Sea Hawkes scoreless.
Having hit the lead the pressure was kept on Sea Hawkes who managed to score three times, with 2 goals to Stuart Murdoch and another to Jonas Price. They couldn‚t manage to pull back any ground from the FBI‚s who also scored three more, 2 to Sean Andrews and 1 to Leigh Steele.
Bring It On Wish They Hadn’t
In a very close game Ralph Polos defeated Bring It On 8-6. This game was poised to go either way at a number of points during the time but the Ralph Polos were able to prevail narrowly.
Locked at 1-1 at the end of the first quarter it looked like it was always
going to be a close evening. Ariane Johns for Bring It On and Genevieve Amor-Smith for Ralph Polos were the scorers. Perhaps Genevieve Amor-Smith never should have been allowed to score in the first quarter because she
certainly developed a taste for it, in the next, posting a huge 4 goals
which gave her team the jump that Bring It On never recovered from, Nicole Lucock managed to pull one back to make the half time score 5-2.
Bring it on rallied in the third quarter to reduce the lead after scoring 3 goals, Jennifer Gibson, Nicole Lucock and Ariane Johns were the scorers, to Ralph Polos 1 by Katie Faulkner. At 6-5 the game could have gone either way in the
last quarter but the Ralph Polos weren‚t about to let the game unravel and held on solidly, posting two more goals, one to Genevieve Amor-Smith for a huge 6 for the match and another to Katie Faulkner, Bianca Limon kept Bring It On in it with a goal but the match ended at this point.
Battle of The Babes
The Water Bubble Babes scored a convincing win over the H2O Babes 8-3 in a match where Eliza-Jane George, playing a very courageous game scored 5 and proved very difficult to contain. Again the early score was very close at 1-1 at the end of the first quarter, Eliza-Jane George scored a great goal for Water Bubble Babes while Penny Phillips scored an equally good one for H2O Babes.
Just into the second quarter Eliza-Jane George scored along with Nicola Pollard for the Water Bubble Babes, to give them a 3-1 half time lead. A goal by Emily Stanton for the H2O Babes raised a glimmer of hope before Eliza-Jane George scored two more for the Bubble Babes. Going in to the last quarter Emma Burniston scored for H2O Babes but the Bubble Babes handled any pressure thrown their way and never looked likely to pop.
They started to increase the pressure themselves, with another goal to Eliza-Jane
George, as well as goals to Nicola Pollard and Maddy Price bring the game to a halt.
