CAPTAIN CARTER. The words have a nice ring to them, especially to the ears of Mittagong Lions junior Warwick Carter.

The Braemar boy has been named captain of the Cronulla Sharks Toyota Cup team that kicks off its season against Melbourne tomorrow night.
It’s a great honour for the former Bowral High student who moved to Cronulla from St George-Illawarra for 2010.
“When I went across there, Joey [Joey Grima, Cronulla coach] said they were looking for someone with a bit of experience to lead the team,” Carter said.
The captain’s tag was extra incentive for Carter during the offseason and helped him be in the best shape of his career heading into tomorrow’s match.
Carter had limited opportunity with the Red V last season. He played 11 matches but could not cement a permanent spot in the backline.
This year he starts the season in the number nine and he is excited to be packing down with the forwards.
“Hooker is probably my favourite position now,” Carter said.
“You can get in amongst it with all the big fellas.”
Needless to say, Carter’s not afraid to bring down the tall timber.
He was handed some NRL experience in a trial against Manly a few weeks ago.
“It was daunting, very fast,” Carter said.
“It was great to get a chance to play with the big boys and hopefully it’s something I can do again soon.”
This season is Carter’s last in the under-20 National Youth Cup competition.
