Owner of Tahmoor House Heather Gray contacted Foxtel’s Lifestyle show in October 2017 in the hope they could help her to find a buyer.
Tahmoor House, on Remembrance Drive, was built in 1824 and it is one of the oldest private residences in Australia.
The Selling Houses team will give the home a lick of paint, spruce up the gardens and make the home appealing to buyers.
As per the show format, an open inspection was held on Saturday, January 15 which allowed would-be buyers to see the house before the makeover and provide feedback on its existing worth.
Ms Gray has trusted her home of six years to the renovation team.
“I have seen the show a couple of times before,” she said.
“I believe they will treat the house with respect. They have shown that when they renovated other historic houses.
“I am terrified of the whole process but I know the team know what they are doing and I am excited about how the house will look.
“It is going to be great.”
The renovations are scheduled to start in February and will take three days.
Ms Gray expects the episode to air next season and she will finance all of the renovation work.
She and her husband purchased the property in the hope of turning it into an antique shop in their retirement.
After her marriage broke down, Ms Gray said she was “ready to move on”.
“The renovation will be great for the house and great for me,” she said.
“Because I live alone, the upkeep is to much for me.”
The house has four-plus bedrooms, three bathrooms, four parking spaces and sits on an acreage.
The home was built in the Georgian-style but Ms Gray has decorated it in a traditional Victorian-style.
The home was originally a coaching inn and in the mid-1800s it became a private family residence.
The living areas consist of a large formal lounge with open fireplace, a north facing sunroom which takes in rural views; a breakfast room adjoining the kitchen; an additional lounge and an enclosed verandah room.
There is also a tennis court, water garden, fish pond, barn-style workshop and cellar.
Ms Gray listed the property at $999,000 in April 2017.
The house in now on the market with Carpenter Partners, based in Tahmoor.
The new season of the show starts Wednesday March 7 at 8.30pm on Foxtel’s Lifestyle channel.
The Tahmoor House renovation will be the final episode in the 13-part series.
